Job summary

Merit General Contractors is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support daily field operations on commercial construction projects. You will coordinate subcontractors, review plans and specs, and help ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence in a dynamic field environment.

The role emphasizes field leadership, effective communication, and the progression toward independent supervision, with opportunities to grow into a Superintendent position as experience develops.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of commercial construction field experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, initiative, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support the Superintendent with daily coordination and supervision of field activities.
• Review plans, specs, shop drawings, and project information before work is installed.
• Coordinate subcontractors and verify manpower, materials, equipment, and access.
• Participate in daily planning and short-term look-ahead discussions.
• Perform routine field walks to identify safety, quality, and coordination issues.
• Assist with safety orientations and enforcement of safety requirements.
• Verify work installed per drawings, specs, submittals, and quality standards.
• Coordinate inspections and assist with preparations for authority, consultant, and owner inspections.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, photos, and field observations in Procore.
• Track deliveries, material storage, site access, and field logistics.
• Assist with layout verification and coordination of installed work.
• Identify field conflicts and communicate RFIs to Superintendent/PM.
• Monitor punch lists and drive corrective work to completion.
• Develop increasing responsibility toward Superintendent role.
