Job summary
SEARCH has an immediate opening for a Full-Time Lead Archaeologist based in New Mexico or Arizona to lead terrestrial archaeology crews on Phase I, II, and III projects in accordance with the research design.
The role involves pre-field research, field logistics, data analysis, report writing, and collaboration with Senior Archaeologists, PIs, and Project Managers. Travel and supervisory duties are required, with competitive compensation and benefits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
- Permitted or eligible to be permitted in NM or AZ.
- Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
- Minimum of two years of professional archaeological field experience.
- At least one year of supervisory experience in the field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain government security clearance.
- Based in New Mexico or Arizona.
- Experienced in Southwestern archaeology.
Responsibilities
- Lead crews on Phase I-III studies per research design.
- Perform pre-field research, mapping, data entry, and project summaries.
- Supervise field teams and coordinate with leadership.
- Prepare technical reports and progress updates.
- Ensure health and safety compliance and quality control.
- Travel for extended periods.
