Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Field Installation Technician to support the installation team, ensuring on-time delivery and quality. You will liaison between customer and delivery team, communicating status and risks, and assisting with startup, commissioning, and training at customer sites.

This role requires field work at least 80% of the time, with 5 days per week travel to US/Canada, and a strong background in industrial equipment and PLC controls.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial equipment.
  • 3-5 years controls experience including diagnosing intermittent failures.
  • Experience with PLC platforms such as Beckhoff and Schneider.

Responsibilities

  • Review new system installations to confirm prints and functioning as designed.
  • Perform startup and commissioning of new installations.
  • Generate installation and commissioning reports.
  • Provide support to subcontractors to ensure installation steps meet design intent.
  • Conduct training for operations and maintenance groups.
  • Over the phone support to customers during installation phases.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems during start-up phases.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems during start-up phases.
  • Review PLC programs for troubleshooting and commissioning steps.
  • Check inventory of delivered components to validate all parts are available for installation.
  • Communicate with the customer during installation for inquiries and requirements.
  • Gather feedback from subcontractors for continuous improvement of installation processes and standards.
  • Work with PMs and PEs to derisk field issues during installation.
  • Daily communication of project status including punch lists and risks.
  • Identify potential risks in installation phase and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate risk factors to ensure proactive decisions.
  • Implement quality control measures to guarantee installation accuracy.

Job Description

As the Field Installation Technician you will be responsible for supporting the installation team (customer or contractor) to ensure on time delivery of installation schedules and that the quality of installation meets the customer and expectations. You will act as the liaison between the customer and the delivery team to effectively communicate installation status, risks and unforeseen impacts to the delivery schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to sub-contractors to ensure installation steps are completed with the expected level of quality per the design intent.

  • Communicate with the customer through the installation phase for any inquiries and requirements from the customer scope of work.
  • Solicitation and gather feedback from sub-contractors for use of continuous improvement for installation processes and standards

  • Daily communication of project status including punch list items and risks to project delivery.
  • Identify potential risks in the installation phase and develop mitigation strategies.

Skills and Requirements
  • Proven experience as an Installation or service technician or similar role
  • 2+ years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial equipment (pneumatic, electrical and mechanical).
  • 3-5 years of extensive Controls experience (including diagnosing complex, intermittent system failures), programming in addition to troubleshooting, commissioning and retrofitting multiple OEMs, supporting PLC platforms (such as Beckhoff and Schneider etc.)
  • Demonstrated success in supporting high-performance teams in a technical project environment.
  • Solid technical background with understanding of installation procedures
  • Ability to support and coordinate multiple teams during installation phases
  • Working in the field performing physical installation tasks at least 80% of time
  • Industrial facilities in the field at the customer location supporting various industries.
  • 5 Days Per week US / Canadian Travel
  • US Passport Holder
  • Ability to modify PLC program (not a requirement but a plus)
