Job summary

Syntax Talent Solutions seeks a Field Technician to install, commission, and troubleshoot PLC-based machinery at customer facilities worldwide. Job description

About the Role:

As a Field Technician, you will be responsible for installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC-based machinery at customer facilities domestically and internationally. You will ensure equipment is installed to specification, operates safely and efficiently, and meets customer performance expectations. Your work will directly support uptime, productivity, and customer satisfaction, often serving as the primary technical contact on-site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, commission, and start up electrical and PLC-based machinery at customer sites according to engineering specifications and procedures.
  • Read, interpret, and apply complex electrical schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings to perform accurate installations and adjustments.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and control system issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Perform on-site testing, calibration, and verification of equipment performance to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with customer personnel during installation and service activities, providing clear updates, guidance, and technical explanations as needed.
  • Document service activities, findings, and solutions in a clear and timely manner for internal records and customer reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement by communicating recurring field issues and feedback to engineering and technical teams.
Key Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical disciplines, including installation procedures and machinery troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of PLC-based machinery controls, including fault finding and troubleshooting in the field.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and follow complex electrical schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel in customer facilities.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills, with sound decisiveness and planning capabilities in a field environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally, often for extended periods.
  • Valid passport and ability to meet travel and site access requirements (e.g., customer safety or security protocols).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical disciplines related to industrial machinery installation and maintenance.
  • Experience commissioning automated or integrated production systems.
  • Familiarity with multiple PLC platforms and associated programming or diagnostic tools.
  • Background in industrial automation, manufacturing, or capital equipment installation.
Qualifications:
  • Technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Formal apprenticeship or recognized training in electrical or controls disciplines is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in electrical, controls, or automation technologies are an advantage.
