Job summary

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our civil and transportation engineering team. You will monitor field work, enforce quality control, and document progress on highway projects under supervision.

Ideal candidates have 3–7 years of related experience, a high school diploma, and knowledge of VDOT specs and standard field procedures. The role requires travel, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work full-time on site.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years of relevant experience in materials, standards, and specifications for transportation projects.
• Knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance methods and specs.
• Experience with VDOT specs, manuals, and environmental/safety guidelines.
• Ability to use project contract management software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction CM systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor work to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge projects.
• Inspect and monitor field work including excavations, drainage, road surfaces, and structures.
• Observe and document contractor's daily production rates.
• Schedule work and inspection phases with contractor and agency personnel.
• Identify non-compliant work and communicate with contractors.
• Take field measurements of pay items.
• Review placement and testing of construction materials.
• Review lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey equipment.
• Oversee erosion/siltation controls, work zones, and traffic control devices.
• Suggest changes to plans to meet field conditions or save costs.
• Maintain project records: diaries, notebooks, as-builts, pay quantities, estimates.
• Ensure DBE/EEO compliance on Federal-aid projects.
