Job summary

City of Fontana seeks a Public Works Inspector to perform field inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects within the Environmental Compliance Division. You will ensure work aligns with standards, review plans, monitor BMPs, and document inspections using the City permit tracking system.

You will collaborate with engineers, contractors, and City staff to resolve issues, enforce plans and specifications, and help protect water quality and public safety.

Qualifications

• Two years of sub-professional engineering or journey-level public works experience with construction inspection.
• Knowledge of construction methods, safety hazards, and applicable laws and codes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, plans, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect road, sewer, irrigation, grading, and related construction work.
• Enforce compliance with contract plans, specs, and City standards.
• Review field reports for accuracy and completeness; maintain inspection records.
• Coordinate inspections with other City departments and external agencies.
• Prepare clear correspondence and technical reports; communicate findings to contractors and City staff.
