Job summary

DVJ Consulting Engineers seeks a Construction Inspector I/II to support Public Works inspection activities in Los Angeles. You will inspect road, bridge, flood control, sewer, water and utility projects, ensure compliance with plans, specs and permits, and coordinate testing and staking as directed.

Strong communication with stakeholders is essential. The role requires interpreting complex documents, enforcing safety and traffic controls, and preparing logs, daily reports and as-built records

Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Greenbook standards and Public Works construction plans.
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications and contract documents.
• Ability to independently identify problems and propose solutions.
• At least one year of experience on road, bridge, water/sewer or related projects.
• Ability to enforce temporary traffic controls per approved plans and MUTCD.
• Capable of working with limited supervision on complex inspections.

Responsibilities

• Under oversight of PW leaders, perform construction inspection and enforce contract/permit documents.
• Perform inspections on road, bridge, flood control and utility projects for compliance.
• Coordinate material testing and construction staking as needed.
• Respond to public inquiries and maintain accurate records and logs.
• Prepare back-up documentation, change orders, and daily/field reports.
• Maintain professional relationships with Department staff and contractors.
• Monitor safety compliance and ensure right of way maintenance.
• Reject non-conforming work and issue deficiency notices.
