Job summary

The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking an Inspector (Consumer and Worker) to conduct field enforcement, undercover inspections, and multi-agency actions across NYC. Duties include testing weights and measures devices, investigating trade practices, and documenting findings using digital systems.

Applicants must have a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a bachelor’s degree, and may qualify via a combination.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of full-time experience conducting investigations or inspections for a consumer or worker protection agency.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
• A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the first item. College education may substitute for required experience (30 credits per year).
• All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field enforcement and undercover inspections; participate in multi-agency enforcement actions.
• Enforce laws and regulations relating to weights and measures; test, seal, condemn, or confiscate devices.
• Inspect and investigate trade practices to detect consumer deception; inspect all trades and occupations licensed by DCWP.
• Lift weights, walk, use mass transit, and climb stairs.
• Complete reports on complaints investigated and violations identified using tablets or written documents.
• Prepare summonses and testify at hearings; use agency systems and tablets for evidence and assignments.
