Job summary

The Health Federation of Philadelphia invites applications for a Community Remediation Specialist with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. This role supports harm reduction and public health goals through environmental cleanup and outreach in Philadelphia, focusing on neighborhoods most affected by substance use and environmental hazards.

Responsibilities include safe collection of discarded equipment, safety training, and linking residents to social or medical services.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED or a combination of education and 1+ year related work experience.
• OR associate’s degree with two+ years’ related work experience.
• Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.
• Comfortable working in high impact neighborhoods with professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Conduct systematic collection of discarded injection equipment in streets, sidewalks, parks, vacant lots, transit areas, and public facilities.
• Follow PPE and biosafety protocols; transport and dispose of materials per regulations.
• Identify environmental hazards and report for escalation; maintain field logs and metrics.
• Engage respectfully with individuals who use drugs, residents, and stakeholders; provide harm reduction education and referrals.
• Administer Naloxone when needed and provide field training to community members/organizations.
