Job summary

UES is seeking a Field Geotechnical Engineer to lead subsurface investigations and on-site evaluations. The role requires extensive site time, coordinating drilling, logging, and testing, while ensuring compliance with geotechnical recommendations and safety standards.

You will communicate field findings to project teams, review lab data, and assist in geotechnical reporting. This field-driven position emphasizes travel, field safety, and rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of geotechnical field and construction observation experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical reports, plans, and drawings in the field.
• Travel and valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform subsurface investigations including soil borings, CPTs, and rock coring.
• Log soil/rock borings according to ASTM/standards.
• Classify soils using USCS.
• Coordinate field exploration activities and supervise drilling crews.
• Perform in-situ testing and monitor dewatering activities.
• Provide on-site engineering judgments on soils and subgrade prep.
• Monitor foundation installations and earth retention construction.
• Conduct construction observations for conformance with plans.
• Communicate findings to contractors, PMs, and clients.
• Maintain field notes, photos, and daily reports; review lab results.
• Assist in preparing geotechnical reports and memos.
