Job summary

AECOM is actively seeking an entry-level Geologist based in Providence, Rhode Island, to support the Environmental business line on Federal projects.

Responsibilities include field sampling of soils, water and sediments, data preparation, oversight of subcontractors, and basic scientific reporting. Candidates must have a geology-related degree, a valid US driver's license, and be able to pass background checks and OSHA HAZWOPER requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must pass state and federal criminal history/security background check.
• Must meet OSHA HAZWOPER medical surveillance requirements.
• Preferred: Master's degree in geology or related field and HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

• Apply field practices and collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment.
• Prepare samples for shipping and complete chain‑of‑custody paperwork.
• Explain observations using chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology and mathematics.
• Conduct oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and drilling companies.
• Prepare basic data and scientific documents and reports.
• Possess technical report writing skills and communicate findings clearly.
• Perform unsupervised field tasks and coordinate with managers and field staff.
• Travel to various job sites within the US and participate in health and safety inspections.
