Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Junior-level Environmental Scientist based in Fenton, MO to support environmental projects across Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. You will gain field data collection experience and help prepare analyses and reports while receiving mentoring and training opportunities.

The role involves field work, some overnight travel, and coordination with residents and EPA to ensure project success. Strong candidates have a science/engineering degree and HAZWOPER training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in scientific or engineering field.
• 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training and 8-hour refresher are required or provided by Tetra Tech.
• 0–3 years of experience with hazardous materials, sampling of environmental media, or related activities.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Driving on a regular basis; valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Collect soil samples from residential properties with owner permission.
• Prepare samples for analysis via XRF spectrometer.
• Analyze soil samples for lead and heavy metals using an XRF spectrometer.
• Prepare field sketches and documentation for residential soil sampling.
• Provide oversight of excavation crews removing lead-contaminated soils.
• Coordinate with project team and residents to complete work to EPA satisfaction.
• Prepare sampling and health and safety plans.
• Conduct field studies collecting soil, groundwater, and indoor air samples.
• Interpret sample data and prepare data summary reports.
• Maintain and calibrate field equipment.
• Support other environmental studies in the four-state region.
