Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. It is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.

The Field Engineering Technician performs technical work related to construction activities such as cost estimating, drafting, field measurements, site layout, preparation and correction of field drawings, job folder preparation, material ordering, assisting crews, writing clearances, mobile as-built jobs, and quality assessments. The technician monitors quality, reports issues, and may suggest process improvements.

The hourly rate ranges from $44.43 to $62.57, with starting pay at $44.43, subject to wage increases per the collective bargaining agreement.

This position is DOT-covered and subject to drug and alcohol screening. Travel may vary from 20% to 50%, with minimum overnight travel.

Job Responsibilities

  2. Ensure documentation accuracy and completeness; verify field work adherence to safety standards and timeliness.
  3. Follow corrective action processes for quality issues.
  4. Collaborate with stakeholders to address discrepancies.
  5. Communicate effectively with field personnel and supervisors.
  6. Exchange information with peers and team members.
  7. Work independently, using various methods to resolve problems.
  8. Maintain data and records as required.
  9. Follow work procedures, standards, and policies for QA/QC.
  10. Learn new concepts quickly and adapt to changing conditions.
  11. Organize tasks efficiently.
  12. Work effectively in a team environment.
  13. Communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
  14. Use conflict resolution skills to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to drive safely in all conditions
  • Extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to travel and transfer as needed within PG&E territory
  • Ability to wear PPE
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Desired
  • Experience in field work, gas, and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word
  • Strong math, computer, and communication skills
  • Preference for candidates within 50 miles of the headquarters
