Job summary

Avidex in Fremont, CA is seeking a Field Engineering Supervisor to lead and develop the Field Engineering staff while delivering hands-on AV/IT solutions. You will oversee system commissioning, troubleshooting, and project delivery from a hands-on role to a leadership position.

You will mentor technicians, manage schedules, and ensure quality while advancing technical standards and process improvements across projects. Travel and occasional extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4+ years AV/IT industry experience providing technical or engineering support.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with AV/IT software, tools, and test equipment.
  • Advanced experience setting up and adjusting audio, video, and conferencing systems.
  • Advanced experience with digital signal processors (Biamp, BSS, Crestron, Extron, QSC).
  • Advanced proficiency configuring wired and wireless TCP/IP networks.
  • Loading, testing, and editing AV control code and GUI files.
  • Proficiency with Crestron, Extron, AMX programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of Python, HTML, C#-Pro, or similar languages.
  • Working knowledge of IP/RS232/RS485/USB protocols.
  • Ability to color balance video displays.
  • Strong computer skills and multi-OS proficiency.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day activities, performance, and development of field engineering staff.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, performance feedback, and technical training.
  • Establish individual responsibilities and maintain accountability for team performance.
  • Provide hands-on field engineering support: configuration, programming, troubleshooting, commissioning, documentation.
  • Partner with project teams to support installation, testing, commissioning, and completion.
  • Improve Field Engineering procedures, practices, and technical standards.
  • Assist recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of team members.
  • Ensure subcontractor work meets quality standards and requirements.
  • Provide overflow and backups to Field Engineering and Managed Services teams.
  • Maintain licenses and OSHA compliance, and adhere to company policies.
  • Oversee tools and test equipment for Field Engineering.
  • Monitor utilization and support 80% monthly billable target.

Position Overview

TheField Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading Field Engineering staff while providing hands-on technical and project support for the Systems Integration business. This working supervisor role combines people leadership with advanced AV/IT technical expertise to support successful system commissioning, troubleshooting, and project delivery.

As a key member of the project and technical team, theField Engineering Supervisor provides day-to-day direction, coaching, mentorship, and development to Field Engineering staff while partnering with management to improve processes, maintain technical standards, and support operational performance.

This is an opportunity for an experienced AV/IT professional to lead and develop technical talent while remaining actively involved in field engineering, system commissioning, programming, and troubleshooting.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with management to improve Field Engineering procedures, practices, and technical standards
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of Field Engineering team members
  • Ensure subcontractor work meets company quality standards and applicable requirements
  • Provide overflow and backup support to Field Engineering and Managed Services teams as needed
  • Ensure staff maintain required licenses and certifications and follow OSHA requirements, industry best practices, and company policies
  • Oversee Field Engineering tools and test equipment
  • Monitor team utilization and support achievement of the established 80% monthly average billable target
  • Attend required training and maintain certifications as required

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency loading, testing, and editing AV control code and graphical user interface files
  • Proficiency with Crestron, Extron, and AMX programming languages
  • Working knowledge of Python, HTML, C#Pro, or similar programming languages
  • Working knowledge of digital communication protocols including IP, RS232, RS485, and USB
  • Ability to set up and color balance video displays
  • Strong computer skills, including business applications and multiple operating systems
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings or weekends based on project needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • AVIXA CTS-I or CTS-D certification
  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent
Required Certifications
  • AVIXA CTS certification, or ability to obtain within one year of accepting the position
  • CompTIA Network+ certification or greater, or ability to obtain within two years of accepting the position
