Job summary

Bollinger Shipyards is offering a Field Engineering Intern position for a full-time, on-site summer internship across Lockport, Morgan City, and Houma locations. The role targets students pursuing Mechanical, Electrical, or Naval Architecture degrees who want hands-on exposure to vessel construction and field engineering.

You will work with Field/Project Engineers on visits to vessels under construction, gain insight into required skills, and support light engineering tasks.

Qualifications

• Currently a Freshman or Sophomore enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office; experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Work authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Visit vessels under construction with Field/Project Engineers to understand the vessels, required skills, and construction processes.
• This role will require outside-of-office visits to the vessels.
• PPE will be required and worn daily in this role.

Title: Field Engineering Intern

Location: Rotating between Lockport, Morgan City, and Houma Locations

Bollinger is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineering Intern for a full-time, on-site summer internship at our Lockport, Morgan City, and Houma locations. This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a professional, real-world environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Report to Field Engineers or Project Engineers to visit new vessels under construction, in order to get an appreciation for the vessels, the skill set needed for field engineering, the construction process and assist with light duty field engineering work. This is a great opportunity to visit new vessels under construction.
• This role will require outside of office visits to the vessels.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required and worn daily in this role.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently a Freshman or Sophomore enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
• Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
