Job summary

Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to design electric distribution extensions, perform staking, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to advance projects in Virginia. The role includes acquiring rights-of-way, preparing accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with national codes and cooperative policies.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in related field of study.
• Experience with GIS, Automated Staking software or similar engineering software.
• 5 years progressive experience in electric distribution design preferred.
• Notary Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Certified for entry to Virginia rail/quarry facilities.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record.
• CPR and first aid certification required.
• Ability to handle flexible schedules due to unplanned requests.
• Ability to read maps and staking, cost estimates, contracts and related docs.

Responsibilities

• Design underground and overhead extensions following standards and policies.
• Acquire rights-of-way as needed, at no cost to the Cooperative.
• Complete staking, summary/material and transformer sheets accurately.
• Act as Cooperative ambassador to members and the public.
• Coordinate with district personnel, governmental agencies and utilities.
• Provide and coordinate estimates for members, developers, and contractors.
• Acquire necessary permits to complete the job.
• Assist in special projects as necessary.
