Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin, through Applied Research Laboratories, seeks a Field Engineering Associate (RESA IV) to provide field engineering support for advanced underwater sensor systems and to help coordinate testing, maintenance, and training on Navy platforms.

Ideal candidates will bring substantial Navy systems experience, the ability to deliver training to military and industry partners, and a proven track record of organizing complex installation and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Six years of related experience, including five years with Navy systems and underwater acoustics.
  • Organize, plan, and execute installation, test and maintenance procedures using Navy processes.
  • Knowledge of maintenance/training, developing system-level operating and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of training product/curriculum development.
  • Ability to deliver training to Navy personnel and industry partners.
  • Dynamic, organized, capable of coordinating multiple tasks and time management.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving and judgement.
  • Ability to work independently with sensitive information and communicate with diverse groups.
  • Willing to work under pressure and maintain regular attendance.
  • U.S. citizenship; security eligibility to access classified information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide field engineering support for underwater sensor systems, including grooming, operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinate grooming, testing and utilization of complex acoustic systems.
  • Develop and deliver operator training materials and training sessions.
  • Document procedures and work packages for testing and maintenance.
  • Create technical documentation and manuals for sensor operation and maintenance.
  • Assist in testing, maintenance and training on UUV and Navy platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical assemblies and computer networks.
  • Contribute to training curriculum development for advanced sensors.
  • Liaise with sponsors and present progress briefs.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and project partners.
  • Research new technologies for system enhancements.
  • Support supervisors and engineers; travel as required.
  • Respond to user needs regarding logistics and availability.

Field Engineering Associate (RESA IV)

Responsibilities
  • Provide field engineering technical support for unique underwater sensor suites to include system grooming, operations and maintenance.
  • Support the coordination and planning of the continued grooming, testing and utilization of complex acoustic systems.
  • Serve as a team member for the development of operator training materials and for providing operator training.
  • Participate in formal documentation through the development of test and maintenance procedures and formal work packages.
  • Participate in the development of technical documentation and manuals to support operation and maintenance of unique underwater sensors.
  • Participate in system testing, maintenance and training onboard an Operational Training Platform, UUV support platforms and/or on US Navy platforms.
  • Provide field engineering support; use manuals and automated electronic tools to troubleshoot, assemble and repair electromechanical assemblies, computers and computer networks.
  • Participate in the definition, implementation, and use of training curriculum and special training systems to be used in the operation and maintenance of advanced sensors.
  • Perform liaison tasks with sponsoring organizations and prepare and present formal progress and status briefs covering on‑going activities.
  • Maintain working relationships with vendors, program sponsors, project partner organizations, and system operators from the US Navy.
  • Research and incorporate new technologies for system enhancements.
  • Assist Supervisor and Engineers as required, travel as required.
  • Respond to emergent needs of end‑users of advanced sensors with respect to logistics and operational availability.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of related experience with five years of experience in the operation, test, evaluation and employment of sophisticated Navy systems, including underwater acoustic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute installation, test and maintenance procedures of complex systems using formal Navy systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and training, including expertise developing and applying system level operating and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of training product/curriculum development.
  • Possess the ability to deliver training to active duty Navy and industry partners.
  • Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time.
  • The position will require attention to detail, effective problem‑solving skills and excellent judgement.
  • Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.
  • Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
  • US Citizen. Selected applicant is subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at level appropriate to project requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy processes and procedures for the installation, test, maintenance, repair and removal of electronics equipment, including Temporary Alteration (TEMPALT) and Ship Alteration (SHIPALT) processes.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the operation, testing and repair of underwater systems and support systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and interact effectively with Navy enlisted personnel and officers as well as contractor system providers.
