Job summary

Partner Company seeks a Field Engineer/Supervisor for high‑voltage GIS installations across North America. You will lead field teams, supervise subcontractors, and serve as the main technical interface with customers on complex projects from 69 kV to 800 kV.

You will adapt European documentation for North American requirements, oversee safety and quality, and mentor field staff while coordinating with customers, contractors and suppliers.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Field Engineer / Supervisor based in United States.

This is a field-based technical leadership role focused on the installation, maintenance, testing, and modernization of high-voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems.

You will lead field teams and subcontractors across complex projects ranging from 69 kV to 800 kV, while serving as a key customer-facing technical representative.

The role combines hands‑on site supervision with engineering documentation, technical drawing review, procurement support, and commissioning activities.

You will help navigate major projects across North America and internationally, adapting technical documentation to applicable regional standards.

Safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence are central to every aspect of the position.

You will also mentor field engineers, supervisors, and technicians while collaborating with customers, contractors, project teams, and suppliers.

Accountabilities

• Lead and supervise field teams and subcontractors during GIS installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and retrofit projects from 69 kV to 800 kV.
• Coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, materials, and other site resources to ensure efficient project execution.
• Serve as the primary technical and operational customer interface at project sites.
• Lead daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA/AHA).
• Coordinate site activities and interfaces among customers, contractors, commissioning teams, and project managers.
• Monitor work progress and prepare accurate daily, weekly, and final project reports.
• Support commissioning activities, high‑voltage testing, punch-list resolution, and formal customer handover.
• Review, adapt, and prepare engineering documentation including general arrangement drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection drawings, terminal diagrams, mounting details, and bills of materials.
• Convert and adapt European‑standard engineering documentation to North American requirements, including IEEE, ANSI, CSA, NEC/NFPA, and applicable utility standards.
• Identify technical differences between European and North American design practices and recommend compliant engineering solutions.
• Develop and adapt method statements for installation, maintenance, repair, and high‑voltage testing activities.
• Prepare engineering documentation for review and stamping by a licensed Professional Engineer (PE/P.Eng.) when required.
• Maintain complete, traceable, and compliant records of engineering changes and technical documentation.
• Enforce applicable EHS, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and LOTO requirements throughout field activities.
• Manage site quality inspections, audits, and designated quality hold points.
• Verify personnel training, certifications, qualifications, and PPE compliance.
• Exercise Stop Work Authority whenever unsafe conditions are identified and promote a strong safety culture across the site.
• Develop technical specifications and drawing packages supporting North American component sourcing and procurement.
• Evaluate and validate component substitutions when European parts are unavailable or unsuitable for North American applications.
• Support material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and supplier clarification processes.
• Coordinate with suppliers to verify the fit, function, certification, and compliance of selected components.
• Mentor junior field engineers, supervisors, and technicians and provide technical training to customers.
• Share field expertise, technical knowledge, and best practices across the wider engineering and field services community.
• Provide additional support to AIS activities when required.

Requirements

• Significant hands‑on field experience installing, assembling, maintaining, repairing, and retrofitting high‑voltage GIS substations from 69 kV to 800 kV.
• Proven experience supervising high‑voltage field work, installation teams, and commissioning activities.
• Strong understanding of both European and North American substation standards and practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, mark up, and revise mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation procedures.
• Working knowledge of Local Control Cubicles (LCC) and secondary/control systems.
• Ability to convert engineering documentation from European standards to North American requirements.
• Knowledge of high‑voltage circuit breaker control philosophies and mechanical support structure design.
• Experience preparing procurement documentation, including BOMs, technical specifications, and approved vendor information.
• Strong understanding of quality, testing, commissioning, and turnover documentation requirements.
• Deep knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
• Experience preparing and validating Job Safety Analyses (JSA/AHA) before work execution.
• Familiarity with U.S. and Canadian regulatory requirements for high‑voltage field operations.
• Demonstrated field leadership and experience coordinating teams on complex electrical or high‑voltage projects.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and problem‑solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously at remote project sites and under challenging environmental conditions.
• Comfortable combining hands‑on field execution with technical engineering review and documentation.
• Degree, diploma, or technical training in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• PE/P.Eng. certification is preferred; candidates whose qualifications support licensed supervision are encouraged to apply.
• Fluent English is required; French language skills are a strong asset.
• Must be legally authorized to work and travel in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
• Willingness and ability to undertake extensive domestic and international travel is required.
