Job summary

Bluum is seeking a Field Engineer II to lead deployment, commissioning, and ongoing support of professional AV systems for diverse client projects in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with engineering, programming, service, and client teams, leveraging Crestron, Extron, and QSC control platforms, and applying DSP design across Biamp/QSC platforms. This role requires on-site field work in Phoenix and strong troubleshooting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• System Deployment – Prepare AV systems for deployment, including firmware upgrades and pre-testing code.
• Configure field systems to meet project scope and functionality.
• Collaborate with programmers to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues remotely and on-site.
• Commission AV systems according to Bluum standards.
• Identify upgrade opportunities and communicate recommendations to clients and internal teams.
• Train clients on proper system operation and maintenance where applicable.
• Technical Support – Assist service teams with troubleshooting and break/fix issues, on-site support as needed.
• Diagnose hardware, software, control, DSP, and network issues to determine solutions.
• Standards Implementation – Ensure Bluum standards and best practices across deployments.
• Provide feedback to Design Engineers and Programmers on system performance in the field.
• Identify opportunities to improve deployment, commissioning, and troubleshooting processes.
• System Consultation – Work with design/programming teams to address potential issues pre-deployment.
• Participate in client and sales meetings to provide technical guidance and AV best practices.
• Evaluate and bench-test new technologies for potential integration.
• Other Duties – Support project, team, and organizational needs.

Job description

The Field Engineer II plays a key role in the successful deployment, commissioning, and support of professional AV systems. This position requires strong technical knowledge, hands-on troubleshooting skills, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, programming, service, and client teams throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Candidates should have working knowledge of Bluum’s three primary control platforms—Crestron, Extron, and QSC—as well as experience configuring industry-standard AV networks. The ideal candidate will also have experience with DSP design across multiple platforms and intermediate programming knowledge of at least one of Bluum’s preferred DSP platforms, Biamp or QSC.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

System Deployment – 50%

Prepare AV systems for deployment, including firmware upgrades, loading and pre-testing code, and configuring standalone AV networks.

Configure systems in the field to ensure all project scope and functionality requirements are met.

Collaborate with programmers to remotely identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system issues.

Commission AV systems according to Bluum standards, including extended commissioning requirements when included in the client’s scope.

Identify potential system enhancements or change-order opportunities and communicate recommendations to clients and internal teams.

Train clients on proper system operation and maintenance, when applicable.

Technical Support – 25%

Assist technical service teams with troubleshooting and break/fix issues.

Provide on‑site support for complex technical issues as needed.

Troubleshoot system functionality and provide technical support to customers experiencing issues with AV systems or components.

Diagnose hardware, software, control, DSP, and network‑related issues to determine appropriate solutions.

Standards Implementation and Maintenance – 10%

Collaborate with fellow Field Engineers to ensure consistent implementation of Bluum standards and best practices.

Provide Design Engineers and Programmers with real‑world feedback regarding system standards, functionality, and field performance.

Identify opportunities to improve deployment, commissioning, and troubleshooting processes.

System Consultation – 10%

Partner with design and programming teams to identify and address potential technical issues prior to system deployment.

Participate in remote and on‑site client and sales meetings to provide technical expertise and guidance on AV industry best practices.

Evaluate and bench‑test new technologies for potential integration into Bluum’s standard AV designs.

Other Duties – 5%

Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support project, team, and organizational needs.

What We’re Looking For
