Job summary

Bluum is seeking an AV Installation and Service Technician to support the full lifecycle of audio/visual system delivery, from shop prep to customer site installation and training.

The role combines hands-on field work with documentation, testing, and preventative maintenance to ensure systems meet design specs and Bluum standards. Travel to local/regional sites is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in AV installation or electronics assembly.
• Advanced knowledge of AV signal flow (Audio, Video, Control, and Networking).
• Proficiency with hand tools and various test equipment.
• Advanced understanding of computer networking, including IP addressing and subnetting.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, wire, label, and dress AV equipment racks per documentation and Bluum standards.
• Install AV equipment at customer sites and test functionality before handoff.
• Provide basic system training for customers and support project turnover.
• Communicate progress and issues to project leads and coordinators.
• Mentor and support other Installers on technical aspects.

Job description

The AV Installation and Service Technician is responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of audio/visual system delivery, including internal staging, field installation, customer-site service, preventative maintenance, testing, documentation, and closeout. This role combines shop-based preparation with hands‑on installation and technical service work to ensure systems are built, installed, tested, maintained, and supported in accordance with proposal specifications, design documentation, Bluum standards, and customer expectations.

Essential Functions and Job Duties

System Assembly & Rack Building

• Assemble, wire, label, and dress AV equipment racks according to engineered signal flows, project documentation, and Bluum standards.
• Verify project hardware and staging inventory before deployment, coordinating discrepancies with the appropriate warehouse, project, or installation resources.
• Modify or customize rack hardware and mounting solutions as required for specific project needs.

Field Installation & Project Execution

• Install AV equipment at customer site(s), including wall mounts, brackets, white boards, screens, monitors, projectors, and related system components, in accordance with proposal specifications and system design.
• Test installed systems and perform basic troubleshooting using supplied test equipment to confirm functionality before handoff or departure from the job site.
• Provide basic system training for customers and support successful project turnover.
• Communicate installation progress, completed work, open issues, and job status to the appropriate Project Lead Installer, Project Manager, Installation Manager, or Technical Service Coordinator.
• Function as a mentor, trainer, and technical resource to other Installers.

Technical Service & Preventative Maintenance

• Troubleshoot, repair, or replace AV equipment at customer site(s) as assigned by Technical Service Coordinators.
• Perform preventative maintenance services for installed audio/visual systems at customer site(s).
• Respond to customer phone calls and emails related to technical audio/visual equipment issues, escalating as needed.
• Coordinate with Technical Service Coordinators regarding service completion, unresolved issues, required follow‑up, and documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Competencies

• 3+ years of experience in AV installation or electronics assembly.
• Advanced knowledge of AV signal flow (Audio, Video, Control, and Networking).
• Proficiency with hand tools and various test equipment (multimeters, cable testers).
• Advanced understanding of computer networking, including IP addressing and subnetting.

Industry/Manufacturer Certifications (Preferred)

• AVIXA CTS, CTS-I
• Dante Level I or II
• Netgear AV Certification Level 1
• Manufacturer training (e.g., Crestron, Extron, or QSC)

Travel Requirements

• This role requires regular local and regional travel to customer site(s) for installation, service, preventative maintenance, project handoffs, and related field support.
• A company vehicle or allowance may be provided for equipment transport and service‑related travel, based on business needs.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds regularly, and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods.
• Must be able to manipulate various hand tools and operate power tools safely.
