Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support the PIE Install Engineering Group within the Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division. The role focuses on ensuring construction and maintenance work complies with approved project documents through field input during scoping, design, execution and closeout.

Position levels 3 and 4 offer increasing responsibilities: level 3 performs advanced field tasks independently; level 4 leads complex field

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of construction engineering principles, practices, and methods.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and evaluating engineering design documents, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents for completeness, technical adequacy, and constructability.
• Experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and applicable national codes and standards.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate engineering and technical solutions effectively, both verbally and in writing, with management, customers, engineering personnel, construction personnel, and craft personnel.
• Experience conducting field verifications of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and other applicable project requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to collaboratively identify and resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field while coordinating between design engineering and construction.
• Experience coordinating the technical resolution of field conditions, design discrepancies, constructability issues, and other construction-related technical matters.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage assigned field engineering activities and prioritize multiple assignments of varying complexity.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects conform to Approved Project Documents.
• Provide input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate and as-built configurations verified.
• Field Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues and coordinating technical solutions with constructors.
• Lead field engineering assignments and coordinate between design engineering and construction as needed.
