Overview
The Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division (PFE-DO) and the Project Engineering Group (PFE-PE) at Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are seeking a Project Engineer to support the United States’ nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship and modernization programs.
Responsibilities
- Meet with LANL Plutonium Facility (PF-4) customers and users to understand and develop Statements of Need and Scopes of Work.
- Develop technical solutions for facility issues, including modifications, equipment replacement, layout changes, and new equipment or process installations.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers and System Engineers to champion design development, review, and acceptance.
- Coordinate with Work Execution and Construction Management to implement designs and manage change control.
- Ensure design continues to meet facility user needs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead project close‑out activities: collect documentation, test reports, designs, and drawings, and compile them per LANL’s Document Control mandates.
- Serve as the primary champion and facilitator of all technical aspects of projects inside and outside the nuclear facility footprint.
- Maintain high‑quality technical design documentation from inception to completion.
- Support 24/7 operations as required.
Qualifications
Applicants should have experience in project engineering, technical solution development, and design review within a highly regulated environment. Knowledge of nuclear facility operations and safety systems is preferred.
