Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Civil/Structural Field Engineer for the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, WY. You will support field construction activities in the CCGT Area, coordinating planning, material management and execution with engineers, supervision, and crafts to ensure safe, high-quality delivery.

Responsibilities include preparing drawings and installation work packages, tracking progress with daily reports, reviewing BOMs, and ensuring conformance with drawings and vendor requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant field or design work experience, or 5-6 years of relevant civil/structural field experience in the absence of a degree.
  • Knowledge of civil/structural engineering and construction methods and processes.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to walk the jobsite on uneven surfaces, climb ladders and scaffolding, and use PPE.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preparation of construction drawings and contribute to planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Prepare installation work packages and contribute to field change documents and RFIs.
  • Prepare daily and periodic progress reports and update supervisors on progress.
  • Review bills of materials and assist in cost verification and change notices.
  • Create and submit as-built documentation and review project controls related to cost and schedule.
  • Initiate field requisitions and inspect material on receipt and issuance.
  • Review vendor/subcontractor submittals for compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Verify commodities on quantity tracking systems and track progress for schedules and cost reports.
  • Coordinate with engineers, supervision and craft professionals on interpretating design documents.
  • Develop commodity installation means and methods and understand applicable codes and standards.

Project Overview

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is driving unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team has been awarded and has executed the EPC contract for the Cheyenne Power Hub Project, one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the United States.

The candidate will support the Construction Team as a Civil/Structural Field Engineer for the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Job Summary

The Civil Field Engineer supports field construction activities within the CCGT Area by coordinating work planning, material management, and construction execution for civil scopes. Working closely with engineering, supervision, and craft professionals, the role supports safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery through technical support, progress tracking, subcontractor coordination, and compliance with project requirements.

Work Planning & Packaging
  • Coordinates the preparation of construction drawings and sketches and contributes to planning construction methods and procedures.
  • Prepares installation work packages as assigned and contributes to field change documents and requests for information.
  • Prepares daily progress reports and periodic photographic progress reports and keeps supervisors informed on progress of assigned tasks.
  • Contributes to the preparation of cost estimates, reviews engineering bills of materials for completeness, and supports verification of change notices and amendments.
  • Creates and submits FCDs as required to provide current as-built documentation, and reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
Material Management
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases, prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment, and inspects material on receipt and material issued for preservation and maintenance.
  • Reviews vendor and subcontractor submittals for conformance to engineering requirements and coordinates responses to requests for information.
Quantities
  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems, validates installation through field inspection and documentation, and tracks craft and subcontract progress for input to schedules and cost reports.
Major Responsibility (Cont.)
Safety / Quality Control
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are adhered to in the operational area, and contributes to ensuring work methods are planned and executed safely.
  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, and vendor requirements, and reviews design documents and model data for readiness for safe construction.
  • Supports the performance of inspections, development of test plans and procedures, and preparation of inspection reports for the assigned scope, and prepares and closes non-conformance reports.
  • Coordinates and resolves engineering, procurement, or construction issues with superintendents or other project personnel.
Technical
  • Supports and coordinates with construction discipline engineers, supervision, and craft professionals in interpreting civil/structural engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Coordinates civil/structural engineering solutions with subcontractors, supervision, foremen, and craft professionals, and coordinates with design on constructability issues.
  • Prepares testing processes and required test equipment, draws field sketches and as-built drawings, and inspects installed components for technical acceptance.
  • Assists in development of commodity installation means and methods, develops an understanding of industry and international codes and standards, and leverages applicable automation software.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant field or design work experience, or 5-6 years of relevant civil/structural field experience in the absence of a degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Knowledge of civil/structural engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Able to walk the jobsite on uneven surfaces, climb ladders and scaffolding, and use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Sound communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Exposure to civil/structural construction on large industrial or power projects.
  • Familiarity with applicable civil/structural codes and standards, including ACI.
  • Experience with construction automation and quantity tracking systems.
