Bechtel is seeking a Civil Field Engineer to support the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The role covers earthworks, foundations, concrete and structural scopes, interpreting drawings, preparing installation work packages, and providing field technical support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience or 6–9 years of relevant work experience.

  • Able to read and interpret civil design drawings and specifications.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is driving unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed the EPC contract for the Cheyenne Power Hub Project, one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the United States.

The candidate will support the construction team as a Civil/Structural Field Engineer for the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Job Summary:

The Civil Field Engineer performs construction engineering within the civil discipline for the CCGT Area, covering earthworks, foundations, concrete, and structural scopes. Duties include interpreting civil design drawings and specifications, preparing installation work packages, managing field material and quantities for the assigned scope, and providing technical support to superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals. #LI-RM1

Major Responsibilities:
Work Planning & Packaging
  • Prepares construction drawings, sketches, and installation work packages for assigned scopes, and assists in planning construction methods, installation sequence, and resource loading.
  • Prepares field change documents and requests for information, supports verification of change notices and amendments, and assists in preparing workforce, material, and equipment schedules.
  • Assembles cost estimates, reviews engineering bills of materials, and reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
Material Management
  • Initiates requisitions and quantity takeoffs for field purchased material, inspects and issues material to craft professionals, and tracks purchases in procurement systems.
  • Reviews subcontractor and vendor submittals for conformance to engineering requirements and coordinates responses to requests for information.
Quantities
  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems, validates installation through field inspection and documentation, and tracks crafts and subcontract progress for schedule and cost reporting.
Safety / Quality Control
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are adhered to in the operational area, and reviews design documents and model data for readiness for safe construction.
  • Verifies material quality and workmanship against codes, specifications, and drawings, and performs inspections and prepares test plans, inspection reports, and non-conformance reports.
  • Monitors delivery, storage, and installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance and environmental protection, and ensures compliance with contract documents.
Technical
  • Interfaces with construction discipline engineers, superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals in interpreting design and vendor documents, and coordinates engineering solutions and constructability issues with design.
  • Conducts equipment tests, prepares construction test plans and records, and records installed components for technical acceptance.
  • Drafts change notices, extra work orders, and back charge notices, facilitates commodity installation means and methods, and ensures compliance with industry and international codes and standards.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
  • Knowledge of civil/structural construction methods, including earthworks, excavation, grading, drainage, foundations, concrete placement, and structural steel.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ACI.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications, with excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Able to walk the jobsite on uneven surfaces, climb ladders and scaffolding, and use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Able to work extended schedules and night shift as required to support project execution plans.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience on combined cycle facilities.
  • Experience with digital terrain models, machine control, and survey interfaces.
  • Knowledge of the constructability process and interfacing with design engineering.
