Job summary

Highmark Construction Company is seeking a Field Engineer to support project teams on site in Redmond, WA. You will assist the Superintendent and Project Engineer, prepare work plans, schedule materials, and help ensure safety and quality on the jobsite.

You will communicate across the project team and help maintain accurate records and daily logs. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of heavy civil construction experience, a construction-related degree, and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of relevant heavy civil construction experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office; strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and enforces the project safety program.
  • Assist in preparing Job Hazard Analyses (JHA’s) and safety reviews.
  • Supervise subcontractors and coordinate with vendors and field crews.
  • Order and schedule material deliveries; maintain organized project records.
  • Assist in field surveying, layout support, and as-built data compilation.
  • Maintain daily labor timesheets and assist in invoicing from subs and suppliers.

JOB TITLE: Field Engineer

REPORTS TO: Project Engineer

STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY: The Field Engineer assists and supports the Superintendent and Project Engineer on assigned project(s). The position works under direct supervision of the Project Engineer and performs routine daily activities and gathers and distributes information. The Field Engineer must be able to work independently but also succeed as part of the project team. The responsibility of the Field Engineer includes being a representative for the Company for construction operations and requires a strong understanding of construction methods, procedures and administrative processes, excellent documentation skills and good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all members of the project (both internal & external). The Field Engineer must be a flexible and adaptable team-player.

KEY INTERFACES: Project Manager, Project Engineer, Superintendent, Foreman

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Communicates and helps to enforce the company’s Health & Safety Program
  2. Demonstrates his/her own commitment to an injury-free workplace through own actions
  3. Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
  4. Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  5. Supervise Subcontractors and communicate with vendors
  6. Order and schedule material deliveries
  7. Prepare work plans and work packages
  8. Participate, record, and in some cases oversee quality assurance measures
  9. Assist in scheduling equipment when necessary
  10. Assist in interpretation of proposals/specifications and drawings for field crews and craft supervision
  11. Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials & work
  12. Assist in field surveying and/or layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data
  13. Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets
  14. Maintain organized and detailed project records
  15. Assist in coding and approving of project related invoices from subs and/or suppliers
  16. Attend project meetings as directed by the Project Engineer
  17. Perform additional assignment’s per the Project Engineer’s direction
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED SKILLS

Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint; Strong written and verbal communication skills; good time management & organizational skills; ability to function effectively as part of a team; dependable; ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times; ability to understand and follow directions; good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies; the ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Experience in HCSS Heavy Job, Plan Grid, Bluebeam and Microsoft Project.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

This position requires one to three years of relevant experience in the Heavy Civil construction industry. A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent is preferred however, relevant experience in the Heavy Civil industry will be considered.
