Job summary

Software Placement Group, SPG, is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support a major California infrastructure project in the Central Valley. The role involves planning, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring field work aligns with plans, schedules, and safety standards.

You will work closely with Project Managers, superintendents, and field teams to drive successful delivery on a multi-billion-dollar transport project.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
• 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Strong understanding of construction safety and OSHA regulations.
• Experience with cost tracking, estimating, forecasting, and contracts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to identify discrepancies early.
• Self-motivated with strong work ethic and ability to work independently or within a team.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications, and develop construction schedules aligned with project milestones.
• Coordinate subcontractors for procurement, preconstruction deliverables, and readiness activities.
• Assist with bid packages, quote collection, and contract preparation.
• Prepare work plans, construction packages, and lead preconstruction coordination meetings.
• Update and distribute work schedules while coordinating notifications with internal teams and agencies.
• Monitor daily field activities and verify work complies with plans and specifications.
• Coordinate with design teams to resolve technical issues and field changes.
• Support subcontract administration including RFIs, submittals, correspondence, and performance tracking.
• Assist with monthly progress billing, reporting, forecasting, and issue resolution.
• Participate in change orders and claims documentation.
• Maintain strong working relationships with owners, subcontractors, consultants, and field personnel.
• Enforce jobsite safety standards, cleanliness, and productivity expectations.
• Identify changing site conditions and help develop solutions proactively.

Location: Fresno, California | Schedule: Full-Time, on-site | Compensation: $95,000 - $140,000 (Based on Experience)

Overview

A major heavy civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support one of California's largest infrastructure projects currently under construction in the Central Valley. This multi-billion-dollar transportation project includes a 32-mile alignment with complex civil scopes such as bridges, viaducts, tunnel work, utility relocations, trench sections, railroad coordination, roadway improvements, and major river crossings. The Field Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and field teams to ensure successful project delivery.

What you'll do

• Review plans, specifications, and develop construction schedules aligned with project milestones

Required qualifications

• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
• Relevant U.S. heavy civil construction experience required
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience
• Strong understanding of construction safety and OSHA regulations
• Experience with cost tracking, estimating, forecasting, and contracts
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to identify discrepancies early
• Self-motivated with strong work ethic and ability to work independently or within a team

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of CPM scheduling and resource planning preferred
• Primavera P6 experience preferred
• Transportation infrastructure projects
• Bridges, structures, utility relocations, rail, tunnels, or roadway construction
• Public works or design-build project experience
