Job summary

SmartStructures is seeking a Project Engineer to oversee development, QA, and field deployment of embedded monitoring solutions for concrete piles, bridges, and other infrastructure. You will blend hands-on troubleshooting, vendor management, and IT/workstation ops to keep engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and customers aligned.

You will lead PCB/embedded sensor assembly, perform testing, and drive continuous improvement using Poka-Yoke and DFA concepts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; MBA is a plus.
• 5+ years in operations, product development, or field engineering—ideally in structural monitoring/IoT.
• Hands-on experience with embedded systems, wireless data collection, or sensor hardware.
• Familiarity with Poka-Yoke, DFA, and lean manufacturing principles.
• Experience managing vendor relationships and pricing negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee product development and process improvements for embedded data collection solutions.
• Coordinate field installations, including unit prep, connectivity troubleshooting, software debugging, and gauge installation.
• Troubleshoot defective products and processes; apply error-proofing and DFA to assembly.
• Oversee PCB/embedded sensor assembly, testing, and documentation
• Manage vendor quality issues and corrective actions; maintain part drawings and build instructions.
