Job summary

Compliance Management International (CMI) in Passaic, NJ, seeks an experienced Construction & Environmental Safety Specialist for a short-term Superfund remediation project. The role involves hands-on safety oversight across environmental and construction activities.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in construction safety, OSHA/Hazwoper certifications, and experience with air monitoring and contractor oversight. The assignment lasts about 4+ weeks with potential extensions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Construction Safety experience.
• Experience with Superfund, hazardous waste and remediation projects.
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction training.
• Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER with refresher training.
• 8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor training.
• Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
• Experience operating air-monitoring and gas-detection equipment.
• Knowledge of OSHA 1910.120 HAZWOPER and 1926 Construction Standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily Construction Safety and EHS oversight on site.
• Support Superfund remediation, hazardous waste and construction activities.
• Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
• Review JHAs, JSAs, AHAs, HASPs, and Pre-Task Plans.
• Monitor OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and 1910.120 HAZWOPER compliance.
• Support HAZWOPER operations, site control, PPE, and respiratory protection.
• Perform air monitoring and atmospheric testing.
• Operate and calibrate multi-gas meters and gas detectors.
• Monitor excavation, heavy equipment, confined space, fall protection.
• Conduct toolbox talks and contractor safety oversight.
• Assist incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Maintain EHS documentation and logs.
