Job summary

AURA seeks a proactive Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator to support safety, health, security, and environmental compliance for NOIRLab's Arizona facilities and travel to Kitt Peak National Observatory. The role partners with the Global EHS Team, scientists, engineers, and contractors to identify risks, strengthen safety practices, and foster a culture of safety.

This hands-on position blends fieldwork with training and program administration in a distinctive scientific setting,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a safety or environmental field with at least two years of related experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA/state/local/tribal safety and environmental regulations.
• Ability to conduct inspections, risk assessments, and safety training.
• Experience with safety management systems and incident investigations.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Kitt Peak and other NOIRLab sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments across Arizona facilities.
• Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and verify closure.
• Review JHAs, procedures, and controls for high-risk activities.
• Provide technical guidance on fall protection, electrical safety, LOTO, lifts, PPE, and more.
• Lead incident investigations and develop corrective actions.
• Coordinate, schedule, and deliver safety training.
• Support emergency preparedness and program administration.
• Maintain EHS records and regulatory reporting; collaborate with Global EHS Team.
