Job summary

Houston Chronicle is seeking a Distribution Assistant to support our Distribution Managers in home delivery, single copy distribution, and third‑party contracts across Texas. This role may be full time or part time and involves field work to ensure customers receive the best experience in a fast-paced environment.

You will monitor contractor deliveries, assist with route assignments, resolve service issues, verify contractor information, and help prepare reports.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to change.
• Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Ability to learn 3rd party programs.
• Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Standing 50% of the time; walking 50%; kneeling 25%.
• Hearing and depth perception required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with independent contractor agreements and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor delivery of all products distributed by contractors.
• Assume delivery responsibilities for open routes when necessary.
• Contact customers with service-related problems and work with contractors to resolve issues.
• Verify information submitted by independent contractors.
• Monitor and assist in delivery of missed or late papers.
• Attend departmental meetings and communicate progress to supervisor.
• Prepare requested reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Periodically audit routes to evaluate service performance.
• Recruit independent contractors.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and clean distribution center.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned.
