Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an Assistant Project Archaeologist - Field Director to support our Arizona cultural resources team with offices in Tucson, Flagstaff and Phoenix. This role is primarily field-based and involves supervising crews, managing fieldwork, and coordinating deliverables across renewable energy, oil and gas, and transportation projects.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology/Anthropology, 2 years of Southwest field experience, and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
• Two years of field archaeology in the Southwest.
• Experience leading crews and QA/QC review of field documents.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged backcountry roads.
• Willingness to participate in drug/alcohol screening as part of pre-employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist projects with initiative, taking responsibility for technical approach, project management, and QA/QC.
• Develop deliverables for complex projects under senior project manager guidance.
• Innovate methods to meet client needs and stay ahead in the field.
• Foster team collaboration and mentorship of junior staff.
• Communicate effectively with Team Leads, PIs, and Project Managers.
