Job Description

Optimus seeks a dynamic, organized, customer-focused Field Diesel Technician to help us reach our bold growth goals by assisting fleets in reducing their carbon emissions and achieving environmental sustainability goals. This role will be one of the company’s primary customer-facing experts on the Vector fuel system technology. This requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software systems, mastery of the tools and diagnostics used for installing and servicing the product, and a dedication to representing Optimus with professionalism in customer environments.

This is a full-time salaried position ($70,000-$80,000 annually) based in Pittsburgh, PA, with significant travel requirements (75%+ of a work year). Responsibilities include on-site customer work such as installation, service, and support of the Vector fuel system.

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert on the Vector system, including its electronic, software, hardware, and mechanical components
  • Perform system installations, including vehicle teardown and reassembly, installation of fuel tanks, manifolds, fuel and coolant lines, wiring harnesses, electronic controllers, and display units
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, electrical diagrams, and manuals to complete installations, troubleshooting, and repairs
  • Conduct system testing after project completion
  • Communicate effectively with customers and eventually train other fleet technicians
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support via phone, email, or in person
  • Ensure customer needs are met reliably and effectively
  • Research and resolve technical issues using internal and external resources
  • Assist with component assembly and manufacturing of the Vector system

Qualifications & Experience

  • ASE Diesel certification or equivalent, military service in a relevant area, or significant related work experience
  • At least 5 years of heavy-duty vehicle or equipment installation, diagnostics, or repair experience
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems with proven troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to understand detailed schematics and follow complex instructions
  • Excellent communication and computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office and GSuite
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal skills; team-oriented problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to work independently under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Pride in work quality and customer satisfaction

  • Physical activity such as bending, climbing, twisting, and lifting (up to 70 lbs)
  • Commitment to continuous learning and skill development
  • Work in various environments including office, outdoor, warehouse, and shop conditions
  • Ability to work around particulates, lubricants, and chemicals
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable record; CDL is a plus
  • Significant domestic travel (75%+)
  • Flexible working hours
