Job summary

Realm is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to be the technical point of contact for customers in the field. You will own integrations, onsite deployment work, and translate real-world needs into scalable technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering or forward deployed / mission operations experience.
• Strong technical fluency and ability to work closely with engineers—read, write, and debug code to build prototypes.
• Low ego, high EQ and strong collaborative instincts to build trust inside Realm and with partners.
• Experience with enterprise, industrial, government, or security‑critical products.
• Strong coding skills, problem solving, and CS fundamentals.
• Mastery of core development/infrastructure/DevOps tools (Git, Linux).
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional problem solving and drive projects.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments with structured thinking.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong data instincts and data-informed decision making.
• Hands‑on prototyping and AI‑assisted coding skills.
• Move fast and deliver with attention to detail.
• Based in US - citizen or permanent resident preferred.

Responsibilities

• Spend >50% of time onsite with customers in Birmingham, AL.
• Shadow operators and frontline teams to understand workflows and integration needs.
• Prototype tools and integrations in the field to validate ideas.
• Troubleshoot complex operational or systems issues across environments.
• Translate field insights into technical requirements and specs for engineering.
• Lead all technical integration work: APIs, data pipelines, hardware/software interfaces, security deployments.
• Collaborate with engineering to align features with field needs.
• Represent customer realities to ensure feasibility and reliability.
• Decompose problems into well-scoped workstreams.
• Enable smooth deployment, data flow, connectivity, and reliability.
• Inform product with field observations and feedback for customer needs.
• Support pre-sales by traveling onsite with prospects to prove value.
• Help build Realm’s forward deployed engineering function.
