Job summary

PLP Group is seeking a Data Center Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot low-voltage electronic systems across diverse environments, including data centers. The role covers security, fire alarm, network cabling, and access control, with travel to client sites as needed.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with CAT5/CAT6, fiber optics, patch panels, A/V gear, and diagnostic tools, and can read blueprints and schematics while maintaining meticulous documentation and safety

Qualifications

  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting low-voltage electronic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage installation methodologies, CAT5/CAT6 cabling, fiber optics, patch panels, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, cable termination equipment, punch-down tools, and appropriate PPE.
  • Understanding of telecommunications, security, fire alarm, and network infrastructure systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure low-voltage cabling and electronic systems, including security, fire alarm, network, audio/visual, and access control systems.
  • Install and connect cables and wiring according to blueprints, schematics, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and system testing to ensure reliable operation.
  • Troubleshoot system issues using diagnostic equipment, including Fluke testers, to identify and resolve technical problems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installations, materials used, testing results, and completed work for compliance and future reference.
  • Provide customer support by explaining system functionality, offering usage instructions, and recommending appropriate system solutions and cost estimates.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, building codes, and industry regulations.
  • Perform system upgrades, retrofits, and reconditioning to support evolving customer and project requirements.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to complete installations, maintenance, and service work.
