WSP in Overland Park, KS is seeking an Experienced Field Control Specialist to support its Field Control Services (FCS) team on diverse projects. You’ll develop proficiency in instrumentation, PLC, DCS, HMI, and testing across industrial and utility environments.

Ideal candidates have foundational controls experience, willingness to travel to client sites, and a commitment to safety and compliance training including OSHA 30-hour.

Qualifications

  • One to three years of college, technical or trade school study, military technical training, apprenticeship, internship, co-op experience, or related work experience in instrumentation/controls.
  • Foundational knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems, with willingness to develop proficiency in PLC-, DCS-, HMI-, and standalone controller-based systems.
  • Basic knowledge of field devices including pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters; switches; valves; positioners; actuators.
  • Ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings including P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam; able to learn specialized controls software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to prepare clear field documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance training, including OSHA 30-hour.
  • Ability to pass drug/alcohol and background screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field control system services under supervision for utility, institutional, industrial, boiler, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Assist with instrumentation installation verification, calibration, loop checks, I/O checkout, testing, and startup.
  • Assist with checkout/testing of PLC, DCS, HMI, burner management, combustion control, and standalone systems.
  • Read and apply P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and control schematics; review data sheets and procedures.
  • Collect field data and prepare work summaries, calibration records, test documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Follow safety requirements, identify hazards, and communicate unsafe conditions.
  • Interact professionally with clients, plant personnel, vendors, and team members.
  • Coordinate with project lead on scope, schedule, and budget; communicate technical issues promptly.
  • Support proposals, estimates, client relationships, and identification of follow-on work.
  • Participate in technical training and develop knowledge for increasingly independent field assignments.
  • Travel to client facilities and support field assignments, outages, startups, or alternate shifts as required.
