Job summary

MoDOT is hiring a Construction Technician to provide semi-skilled paraprofessional support in the construction of engineering projects. The role operates under moderate supervision at the Lee's Summit site.

Responsibilities include conducting basic construction tests, assisting in plan preparation and contractor estimates, and inspecting plants and paving operations. Strong record-keeping and data entry are essential, as is basic math and physical stamina.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• OSHA 10-Hour Certification required within 90 days.
• Successful completion of a work simulation exam and a medical-physical examination.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.
• Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
• Assists in inspection of bituminous and portland cement concrete plants and/or grading, base, bituminous or concrete paving.
• Maintains records and prepares reports pertaining to inspections; keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions; ensures projects meet department standards.
• Enters and records information regarding construction projects into computer programs.
