Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation in Lee's Summit, MO is seeking a construction technician to support the construction of engineering projects. You will perform basic tests, assist in inspections, and help prepare plans and estimates under moderate supervision.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, OSHA 10-Hour certification within 90 days, and pass a work simulation plus medical exam. This role involves moderate physical activity and potential vehicle operation for snow/ice

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic construction tests and reports results to supervisor.
  • Prepares final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
  • Assists in inspection of plants and paving materials.
  • Maintains records and prepares inspections reports and project documentation.
  • Enters and records project information into computer programs.

What You'll Do
  • Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.
  • Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
  • Assists in inspection of bituminous and portland cement concrete plants and/or grading, base, bituminous or concrete paving.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports pertaining to inspections; keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions; ensures projects meet department standards.
  • Enters and records information regarding construction projects into computer programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required within 90 days.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions
  • Job requires moderate physical activity.
  • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
  • Basic math skills, consistent with high school level algebra, will be necessary to perform many of this title’s duties.
  • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
