Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Transportation in Winner, SD is seeking a Construction Technician to support our mission of Better Lives through Better Transportation. This full-time position offers field and office work, training, and a safety-focused team environment.

Responsibilities include inspecting materials, bridges, and traffic controls, performing surveys, and maintaining records. Expect a variable schedule with longer hours during construction season and some weekends.

Qualifications

• All licenses and certifications are required within the first year of employment.
• Certifications in materials testing areas (asphalt, concrete, gravel) are required or will be determined by the supervisor.
• Certifications in inspection areas are required or will be determined by the supervisor.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Further certifications will be determined by the supervisor according to job responsibility or needs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and sample Portland cement concrete, asphalt, gravel and soil materials.
• Inspect bridges, box culverts, and pipe culvert installations.
• Perform field surveys and inspect temporary traffic controls around work zones.
• Complete various records and reports.
