Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Transportation in Winner, SD is seeking a Construction Technician to support our mission of Better Lives through Better Transportation. You will perform materials testing, inspections of bridges and culverts, and field surveys while working a 40-hour week with seasonal overtime during construction periods.

Qualifications include relevant certifications or the ability to obtain them within the first year, a valid driver’s license, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Certification in materials testing areas (asphalt, concrete, gravel).
• Certification in inspection areas.
• Valid driver's license.
• Further certifications determined by supervisor as needed.
• Certifications must be maintained for continued employment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and sample Portland cement concrete, asphalt, gravel, and soil materials.
• Inspect bridges, box culverts, pipe culverts, and installations.
• Perform field surveys and collect data.
• Inspect temporary traffic controls in and around work zones.
• Complete records and reports.
