Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking a Superintendent I to coordinate, plan, and supervise assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities across a project area, delivering safe, on-time results. You will develop and manage schedules, review plans for constructability, mentor crews, and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication on site.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5 years construction management or related experience
• Current driver's license
• Ability to manage multiple, complex projects
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
• Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service
• Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
• Active listening and effective communication with diverse input
• Travel up to 100%

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule
• Review construction and contract documents for completeness and constructability
• Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers and resolve discrepancies
• Develop and manage project schedules, including look-ahead schedules
• Develop a site logistics plan and lead Mortenson tool/equipment utilization
• Collaborate with project partner superintendents
• Conduct on-site orientations, pre-construction planning, and site meetings
• Supervise craft teams; interview, hire, transfer, and dismiss workers as needed
• Coach and mentor assistant superintendents and crew members
• Ensure proper task coding of work hours and track progress
• Handle craft training and career development discussions
• Build relationships across diverse backgrounds and levels
• Lead teams with coaching and feedback to manage performance
• Oversee safety, quality, risk, and compliance for project and team
• Identify and mitigate unfavorable conditions and improve processes
