Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Construction Inspector to oversee field inspections, document measurements, and support project engineers on roadway, bridge and drainage work. Outdoor and physically active role with potential night shifts and varying weather.

Position located in St Martin Parish (District 03 / Unit 233) reporting to the Construction Inspector Supervisor; urgency and schedule may vary with construction needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of construction inspection experience, or equivalent
• Six months in sub-professional engineering or heavy equipment operation plus 4 years in inspection, or
• Twenty-four college hours in architecture, construction management, engineering, or related fields, or
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction technology, or
• Engineer intern certificate

Responsibilities

• Lead and organize the work of lower-level inspectors.
• Conduct field inspections, surveying and documentation for roadway and bridge projects.
• Provide training on inspection of pavement and concrete and monitor testing procedures.
• Assign inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with DOTD standards.
• Review inspection reports and data daily for accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with contractors, utility companies and local agencies to minimize traffic disruption.
