Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a Construction Inspector for District 03. The role involves outdoor, physically demanding field inspections of road and bridge projects, including materials sampling and documentation, under supervisor guidance.

Successful candidates may lead junior inspectors, coordinate with contractors, and ensure adherence to DOTD standards and specifications.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED with 4 years of construction inspection experience, or equivalent pathways listed in the minimum qualifications.
• Experience in field inspections, measurement documentation, and project compliance per DOTD standards is essential.
• Engineering coursework or degree and/or engineer intern certification are acceptable alternatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of lower-level inspectors; organize and review their work.
• Oversee field inspections, surveying, and documentation for roadway and bridge projects.
• Provide guidance on Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, structural concrete, and Superpave asphalt pavement inspections.
• Implement materials sampling and density testing procedures across project phases.
• Schedule inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with DOTD standards.
• Review reports and calculations daily for accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with contractors, utility companies, and local officials to minimize disruption.
