Job summary

Cobb County Government seeks a Building Inspector to inspect residential and commercial construction sites for compliance with building codes and ordinances. You will review plans, perform field inspections, photograph sites, and maintain records.

The role requires an associate degree and 3 years' experience, a valid driver's license, and ability to perform physically demanding tasks. You will engage with contractors, developers, and the public to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required with 3 years of construction/site inspection experience (or equivalent).
• Valid driver's license; may need to obtain licenses/certifications within probation.
• Physically demanding work including climbing, bending, lifting 20–50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect building, electrical, framing, footing/slabs, HVAC, plumbing, insulation, gas, water, and other items at residential and commercial sites.
• Review approved building plans and compare to actual construction; ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Take photographs of sites and maintain photo logs/files of inspection activities.
• Record failed inspections and issue notices of violations/warnings to contractors and owners; coordinate resolutions.
• Approve construction activities and final products meeting all code requirements; maintain inspection records.
• Consult with owners, contractors, developers and the public on codes and procedures; respond to questions and requests for information.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and standards; pursue ongoing training and affiliations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
