Job summary

Manatee County is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to review building plans for code compliance, inspect construction, and issue permits. The role includes handling notices of violation, attending hearings, and maintaining documentation.

A Florida BCAIB license or equivalent experience is required, with a valid Florida driver license due within 30 days of hire. The position is based at Lakewood Ranch, FL, with standard work hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Standard License in one discipline (Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical) issued by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as an Inspector or Plans Examiner required or licensure.
• In lieu of licensure, 4+ years of verifiable experience under supervision of a registered or state-certified contractor.
• Valid FL driver license within 30 days of hire; provisional license within 120 days; full licensure within one year.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and interprets complex plans and specifications to evaluate code compliance.
• Inspects building construction to ensure compliance with codes and permits; identifies defects and applies corrective measures.
• Renders final permit approvals upon completion of construction.
• Prepares notices of violation and attends hearings or court when required.
• Maintains records and drafts letters to contractors and property owners.
• Interacts with property owners, contractors, and the public with high levels of customer service.
• Works under moderate supervision.
