Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation is seeking a civil engineer to perform field inspections of public construction projects and to support design engineering calculations for plans and specifications. Proficiency in AutoCAD is required to prepare complete construction plans and to maintain project documentation for records.

Responsibilities include preparing labor and material estimates, developing final design packages for bidding, conducting permit reviews, and ensuring compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred) or ability to obtain within six months of hire is implied by duties.
• AutoCAD proficiency required for drafting and plan preparation.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in inspection of engineering construction projects; coordinates the work of contractors.
• Performs drafting using AutoCAD 3-D road/utility construction plans and as-built drawings.
• Prepares estimates for labor and material costs; develops final design package for bidding.
• Creates daily reports and other required documentation.
• Performs project and permit inspection; conducts various permit reviews.
• Runs profiles and cross sections; procures field data for plans; establishes line and grade for construction work.
