Job summary

The City of St. Louis Assessor’s Office is seeking a Real Property Appraiser I for downtown St. Louis. The role involves inspecting properties, researching records, and calculating property values for tax assessment.

Work is field-oriented about three to four days per week with hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; a $297 monthly mileage allowance is provided. You will prepare valuation reports for Board of Equalization and State Tax Commission during appeals and assist taxpayers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 6 college-level hours in real property appraisal.
  • Or completion of two appraisal courses from a recognized appraisal school.
  • One year of recent administrative/advanced clerical experience in real property appraisal or related records.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and survey properties; collect measurements and photos for CAMA entries.
  • Identify properties and owners using deeds and maps.
  • Value residential property using standard appraisal methods.
  • Prepare valuation reports for Board of Equalization and for State Tax Commission appeals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
