Job summary

BRC is seeking a Field Based Peer Specialist to join a two-person team with the Field Based Social Work Supervisor in New York shelters. You will work with shelter staff to address the needs of clients with substance use disorders, educate all clients on NARCAN, harm reduction, and safe-use practices, and engage each client with guidance and peer support.

You will escort clients to SUD service providers, attend community meetings, collect data, and write progress notes.

Qualifications

• H.S. diploma/ GED and CRPA Certificate.
• Knowledge of OASAS rules and regulations and be able to maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferred.
• Basic computer literacy required.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients in assigned shelter(s) and provide guidance and advice as needed.
• Educate clients on NARCAN, Harm reduction, and safe-use practices.
• Engage clients around wellbeing during meals and recreation time and provide peer support.
• Escort clients to SUD service providers including harm-reduction providers.
• Attend community meetings as assigned.
• Collect data and write progress notes on services and referrals provided.
• Report to the Field Based Social Worker.
• Build rapport with shelter staff.
• Provide emergency first aid/CPR when needed.
