Job summary

Whataburger is seeking a Field-based Restaurant Maintenance Technician to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen systems across multiple restaurants. The role requires travel, on‑call rotation, and the ability to work with various teams and vendors to restore operations efficiently.

Ideal candidates bring 1+ year of HVAC/refrigeration experience, EPA/CFC certification, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to work full-time hours, with on‑call rotation once a month, and travel locally and long distances.
• 1+ year of field experience in HVAC and commercial refrigeration.
• 1+ year of experience repairing commercial kitchen equipment or equivalent technical education.
• EPA or CFC Certification.
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial kitchen equipment systems.
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and intermediate electrical repairs.
• Ability to prioritize reactive service work and meet SLA timelines.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with restaurant leaders, vendors, and the public.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Whataburger MVR standards.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders and rooftops.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial kitchen equipment or building systems.
• Respond to service calls and restore equipment and facility functionality.
• Complete and document repairs according to SLAs and work orders.
• Travel to partner with Operations and support field leadership.
• Maintain a clean, organized vehicle, tools, and work area.
• Communicate repair status and next steps with leadership and vendors.
• Coordinate and supervise third‑party vendors when needed.
• Support restaurant operations during after-hours, on‑call, or urgent repairs.
