Job summary

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) CPS Conservatorship Worker I–IV position located in Galveston, TX. The role involves handling cases after children are removed, coordinating permanency plans with families, and working closely with courts and kinship caregivers to ensure safe, permanent homes.

New hires with a Master’s in Social Work may qualify for higher starting pay; travel up to 85% and a non-telework eligible role reflect field duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, or related field.
• Two years of relevant work experience in social, human, or protective services.

Responsibilities

• Receive cases from investigators after children are removed and placed in CPS conservatorship.
• Determine each child’s needs and ensure referrals for testing, evaluations, or services.
• Plan for child permanency with families and communities.
• Identify permanency resources and conduct kinship home studies.
• Meet with parents to assess risk and safety, refer to services.
• Meet with children, parents, and kinship caregivers in various settings.
• Collaborate with Placement Team for placements when needed.
• Attend court hearings and prepare reports for permanency decisions.
• Follow up on reunification and adoption processes as required.
