Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL is seeking a Construction Project Specialist to join the PMO within the Infrastructure Services Directorate. This field-based role provides on-site oversight for facility upgrades, new construction, renovations, and modernization, coordinating with project managers, engineers, contractors, and internal safety personnel.

Qualifications

• Significant knowledge of construction practices, materials, and site safety management.
• Experience with DOE/industry safety standards.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day field oversight of construction activities and ensure safety and compliance.
• Verify contractor activities against approved job plans and inspect daily for unsafe conditions.
• Coordinate shutdowns of site utilities with contractors and Argonne personnel.
• Participate in design reviews and safety analyses to address constructability concerns.
• Obtain required permits and ensure access/work control procedures are followed.
• Lead pre-task planning meetings and ensure hazard controls and PPE are available.
• Verify contractor qualifications and communicate jobsite expectations and mitigations.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for safety incidents.
• Monitor field QA/QC and use tools like Procore and Bluebeam for documentation.
• Maintain records and support process improvements and standardization.
• Maintain consistent jobsite presence or cover with qualified alternates.
